7 Ways to Humanize AI Text for a Better Reading Experience
A while ago, there was quite a frenzy about Google flagging all and any content written using artificial intelligence (AI) tools. But that misconception has been debunked.
Google jumped on the AI content bandwagon, saying in its new update that it rewards high-quality content ”however it is produced.”
However, that doesn’t mean you can mass-produce content using AI tools and flood Google’s search pages. All content still needs to possess the E-E-A-T qualities: expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness.
Plus, the content shouldn’t ”seem” like it was written by a machine. It should be helpful to the readers and give off human-written vibes.
The good news is it’s possible to humanize AI text. All you need is to follow the tips in this post and use a tool (or two) to bypass AI detection tools if you care about that.
7 Ways to Humanize AI Content
Content marketing is bigger and more important than ever, with 90% of organizations using it globally. You need content for your blogs, social media posts, email campaigns, videos, newsletters, and the list goes on.
However, this could put a lot of pressure on writers to produce high-quality content, and that too in narrow timelines. Thanks to AI writers, this is no longer as tedious as it used to be — as long as you consider your readers when generating the content.
You should manually edit your text following these steps or use AI tools created to bypass AI content detectors.
1. Add Personality to Your AI Content
Sometimes, you don’t even need an AI detector. Just a mere glance at the generated text is enough to tell you that a human didn’t write it.
One of the main things that separates human and AI-written content is personality. Humans have quirks and styles that make their writing unique. For instance, if you look at Neil Patel’s blog, you’ll notice how he adds personality to his content by using anecdotes and jokes.
Hubspot has content and layout similar to Neil Patel’s website. Both use short sentences, small paragraphs, easy language, and a conversational tone.
However, Hubspot is more formal. It’s also run by a team, so they use ”we” instead of ”I,” which Neil Patel uses.
Either way, both blogs have personality. That’s what you need to add to your AI content. Maybe add a few jokes here and there. If you have an anecdote or personal experience related to the topic, add it there. It adds character and makes your content more enjoyable to read.
2. Give Specific Prompts to AI Writers
Sometimes, it’s not the AI tool that’s falling short; it’s your prompt. Let’s look at two different ones.
Prompt 1: Write a paragraph on the topic ”XYZ.” Keep it to 100 words.
Prompt 2: Write a persuasive paragraph on the topic ”XYZ,” convincing the reader to visit the destination. Make the content sound like a friendly conversation with a bit of humor. Share an anecdote, too.
I tested both these prompts with ChatGPT to show you the difference. Here’s what I got with the first prompt.
Here’s the result with the second prompt.
I won’t say this is perfect. Sure enough, it has some AI elements, but you can see how the tone has shifted. You can use this approach to write content with more depth and personality.
3. Use an AI Tool to Humanize AI Text
If you don’t feel like doing the hard work yourself, there’s always an AI tool to do it for you. The same is true for humanizing AI text.
There are few AI tools that allow you to bypass AI detection tools by adding human-written elements to your content. These elements may be a specific tone, voice, syntax, or vocabulary that gives off a more human touch.
Here are some good ones.
Undetectable.AI
It’s in the name. Undetectable.AI keeps your text undetectable by AI detection tools. How does it do that? I’ll show you below.
For now, you need to know that Undetectable.AI handles up to 10,000 characters at a time. It has a paraphrase approach that, coupled with the advanced algorithm, produces plagiarism-free human-like text.
Let’s put this tool to use. To start, I went to ChatGPT and asked it to write the introduction for an article titled ”Dropshipping 101: Everything You Need to Know.”
Then, I copied this text to Undetectable.AI to humanize it. Undetectable.AI let me set the readability level for the following options:
- High school
- University
- Doctorate
- Journalist
- Marketing
It also allowed me to choose which purpose the content was for. Options included:
- General writing
- Essay
- Article
- Story
- Marketing material
- Cover letter
- Report
- Business material
- Legal material
To keep things simple, I selected ‘’University’’ and ‘’General Writing.’’ The tool barely took 10 seconds to produce this text.
As you can see, the content already looks more human and well-structured. If you need to, you can always make more tweaks to it.
The first 250 words are free. After that, you can sign up for a monthly or yearly paid plan. Find more information here.
Undetectio
Another great tool to bypass AI detection tools is Undetectio. It works along the same principles as Undetectable.AI but with a few added features.
For one, you can change the source language between American and British English. Second, you get 1,000 free words upon signing up.
Let’s give it a try with the same text that ChatGPT generated earlier. Note that the minimum word count you can enter in Undetectio is 300 words. My previous ChatGPT output was 181 words, so I asked ChatGPT to write me the first paragraph of the article to reach the 300-word mark. This is what ChatGPT wrote.
I copied the whole text into Undetectio, and it generated a non-detectable version in just a few seconds. Here’s what the output looked like:
Again, you can see that the output looks a lot like a human would talk. I’d have to say I was pretty impressed with this tool, even a little more than Undetectable.AI.
4. Train the AI on Your Style
Depending on the AI tool you’re using, it may be possible to train it to mimic your writing style. For instance, ChatGPT lets you provide customized prompts and instructions to guide its response.
Jasper and Writesonic also offer “Brand Voice” features that analyze your brand’s tone and style to create the perfect content for you. It’s a smart way to fine-tune AI-generated content to fit your unique voice and brand.
So, you can use previous articles, audio recordings, bios, style guides, and other reference materials to teach the AI how you write and what tone you prefer. Doing this also ensures consistency in your brand voice across all platforms, humanizing your content for readers.
Let’s say you want ChatGPT to write a press release for you. Simply show it the press releases you have written in the past. Or, you can feed it examples from other companies that you admire. You can even create a mini-guide or list of keywords, phrases, and stylistic preferences for the AI to follow.
Now, when ChatGPT generates a press release for you, it will sound like something you would write yourself.
5. Change the Syntax or Sentence Structure
AI tools have a formulaic approach to writing. They follow structured patterns, which can make the content seem robotic. To avoid this, mix up the syntax and sentence structures.
Use shorter sentences followed by longer ones to give a natural flow to your content.
Add some exclamations or questions to break the monotony of plain statements. For instance, instead of saying,
“Here’s how to humanize AI content,”
try asking,
“Want to learn how to make your AI content more human?”
You can also change the sentence voice here and there. If your sentences are mostly in the active voice, throw in a few passive ones. My point is don’t let the content look like it’s following a set pattern like a robot. Keep it dynamic and varied.
Use relevant jargon if you’re writing for a particular industry like healthcare.
For example, you could use “patient” instead of “customer” or “physician” instead of “doctor.” You get the point.
6. Use Emotional Language
Emotions are an inherently human trait. Be it excitement or passion, if your content evokes an emotion in the reader, it has done its job. This is where AI often falls flat — lacking emotional intelligence.
For instance, if you ask an AI writer to describe the Amalfi coast, it might say something along the lines of:
”The Amalfi Coast, nestled along the southern coastline of Italy, is a breathtaking stretch of Mediterranean paradise.”
That’s not incorrect. But it could use a little more emotion.
Now, check out this example:
”As you drive along the winding roads of the Amalfi coast, with the sparkling blue sea on one side and lush green cliffs on the other, you will feel a sense of awe and wonder take over your senses. Whether you’re savoring a limoncello by the sea, exploring ancient churches and lemon groves, or simply taking in the enchanting views, the Amalfi Coast is a dream destination that leaves an indelible impression on all who have the privilege to visit.” See the difference?
Adding emotional language helps paint a vivid picture for readers and makes them more engaged in your content.
7. Fact Check Your Content
AI content generators are known to make mistakes regarding facts and figures. They also tend to make up information that sounds good but has no grounding in reality.
If your content is number-rich, fact-check it thoroughly. Use verified and credible sources to back up your statements. If there are any discrepancies, correct them before publishing.
Avoid using vague or generic terms like “studies show” or “experts believe.”
Instead, use specific references like “according to a study by XYZ University” or “as stated by Dr. Jane Doe.”
Doing so lends credibility to your content and makes it more accurate.
Takeaway
Summing up, it takes a little effort (or a paid tool) to bypass AI content detectors and make your content more relatable to readers.
Google won’t be flagging your AI-written content as long as it is humanized enough to be authoritative and practical for the readers.
So, get tweaking to create AI-human hybrid content!
